I have always been a journal writer, especially when going through bad times. It has always helped me to sort things out and helped me with any major decisions I have had. I started a journal when I started collecting my information on my research. I did it to keep track of where I was and what I was searching. I feel this may help someone else in their journey.
10-08-2001, Tuesday - Today I went to the building that was The Children's Home. This was my very first time since I left 47 Years ago. It was called The Sported Children's Aid Society. It became a foster home for children. The building was built in 1889. The doors and stairways were built of beautiful white oak wood. J.V. Thompson, purchased the property in 1905 and added it to his Oak Hill Estate., for living quarters for his employees. He was a well known Coal Baron during the early 1900's. The lower level of the building was added in 1951 and used by the Uniontown School District for handicapped children. Fayette County Easter Seal Society, purchased and renovated the facility in 1969 to provide services for Fayette County citizens with disabilities. As soon as I entered the building a happiness came over me. One that would be described as, a childlike happiness. That pure and innocent time of your life when you had no problems in the world. The more I walked the floors and looked at everything the happier I felt. This is when memories started to flow like water. I recognized the large oak stairway, the dining room, the girls clothes closets and some of the grounds outside of the building. I felt I was there before. This is where my journey begins.
