01-10-2002 - the Reunion - This was the long awaited day for all of us. Lewana Gordon-King, Helen Gordon-Fike and Catherine Holland and I met at The Children's Home building, after separating for almost 50 years. This is where I left on Memorial Day 1958. I can't describe actually what I felt that day, but knew that it was a great feeling of joy. They could not believe the woman that I had grown into after leaving as a child of 5 years of age. I did not recognize any of them or remember them. We sat and talked for quite awhile and toured the home. Helen said if it would have reminded the same, I would have remembered more then I did. I remember the huge wooden stairway, the attic layout and I recognized the black and white checked linoleum. Lewana and Helen had brought many pictures, that they took at the home when they worked there. I was amazed seeing myself living there. The one photo that connected for me was an outfit I had on there and knew I had photos at home of wearing it. It had a white skirt, blue jacket and a red belt to it. As soon as I saw the picture I said to them, I know this outfit. So this was a vey important connection for me to the home.
